Building with Wood

The overall vision of the “Building With Wood” process is for wood and wood products to become one of the leading materials in construction and interior solutions in terms of value by 2010.

Therefore the industry takes the lead to promote wood as a sustainable building material by establishing a new European framework for the use of wood for mass-market development and for high standard engineered and architectural solutions.

Concrete actions are focused around 5 main topics:

  1. Standardisation and eurocodes
  2. Knowledge base
  3. Education and training
  4. Construction process
  5. New markets

Timber building is part of future energy-efficient building suitable for housing, nurseries and schools, religious, administrative and cultural buildings, factories, as well as for infrastructure-related construction like bridges, sound barriers, hydraulic engineering and avalanche control.

Building with wood creates excellent living conditions!

Thanks to the layered structure of wooden building components, one of its specific advantages is its ability to reduce energy use by providing an optimal thermal, acoustic and moisture insulation, even with lower wall thickness.

Furthermore, wood is a flexible and high-performance material, low in weight, yet high in density, with excellent load-bearing properties.

The durability of wood makes it low in maintenance and resistant to heat, frost, corrosion and pollution.

The wide range of timber varieties makes it possible to suit everybody’s wishes, expressing a contemporary beauty, timeless elegance and simplicity, rooted in nature and respect of the environment.
